A convite do Fundo de Arte P\u00fablica, Mark Dion criou a Unidade de Observa\u00e7\u00e3o dos Animais Selvagens Urbanos, uma pequena esta\u00e7\u00e3o de trabalho no Madison Square Park, em que realizou uma pesquisa sobre seus arredores no per\u00edodo de 11 de julho a 31 de outubro de 2002. Uma mistura potente de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o s\u00e9ria e absurdo divertido, seus resultados aparecem anotados e ilustrados neste guia. O estorninho europeu, o pardal e o pombo dom\u00e9stico s\u00e3o identificados como habitantes, assim como a borboleta monarca, o rato da Noruega e a barata americana. Fotografias e desenhos acompanham as notas sobre o trabalho de campo e da hist\u00f3ria do local. Gregory Volk contribuiu com um ensaio cr\u00edtico. At the invitation of the Public Art Fund, Mark Dion created The Urban Wildlife Observation Unit, a small work station in Madison Square Park, in which he conducted research on his surroundings from July 11 – October 31, 2002. A potent mix of serious investigation and gleeful absurdity, his findings appear fully annotated and illustrated in this guide. The European Starling, the House Sparrow and Pigeon are identified as inhabitants as are the Monarch Butterfly, the Norway Rat and the American Cockroach. Photographs and drawings accompany notes on field work and the site’s history, and Gregory Volk contributes a critical essay. A list of the lectures that took place at the Observation Unit is included at the back along with a bibliography for further research should you be inspired to take up your own post in the city.
